Strength and balance can help you prevent a fall

Home alternations like installing grab bars, railings, and night lights can help reduce the likelihood of a fall while you are at home. But when you are not at home, two powerful tools that can help you prevent a fall are strength and balance, both of which need regular upkeep if they are want to use them to help you prevent a debilitating fall. Practice balance every day. Improve your balance by standing on one foot. Use the wall or other secure fixture like a railing until you feel confident that you don’t need it anymore. As your balance improves, try raising one or two arms into the air as you stand on one foot. With time, you’ll be able to raise your knee, look over your shoulder, and even close your eyes….all while balancing on one foot. Stay tuned for the role of strength in preventing falls.
