Getting the fit “just right”
Getting your helmet to fit “just right” is a matter of trial and error, using the pads provided by the manufacturer and the strap adjustments.
How do you know your helmet is fitted properly fitted?
- The helmet should fit comfortably and not be able to move even with abrupt head movement.
- The helmet should be seated on the users head so that the bottom edge is parallel to the ground, not tilted back.
- The straps should always be buckled and should fit snugly, but not too tightly.
- The sliding clasp on each side of the head should be situated just below the ears.
- The straps should be buckled at all times.
Riding Tips
Young riders should:
- Ride on sidewalks or safe areas only
- Never ride at dusk or night
- Walk their bicycles across streets
- Cross only at the street corner, not mid block
Teen riders should:
- Learn the rules of the road before riding in the street
- Obey all traffic signals and laws
- Always stop at stop signs and stop lights
- Use correct hand signals when turning to let drivers know your intent
