Paramedic Pet Peeves
Getting to an emergency scene as fast as possible without a mishap is job #1 for our first responders. Often, the biggest hurdle between our firefighters and paramedics and the person who needs our help is traffic. Our vehicle lights and sirens convince some drivers to move to the right, but even these signals can go unnoticed if drivers are distracted by loud music, cell phones, or children. In addition, newer vehicles are very well insulated from sound when the windows are closed. Further complicating the matter are intersections, roundabouts, crosswalks, and panicked drivers who make last minute lane changes. Please help us and the person who is having the emergency by staying alert to your surroundings while driving. Pull to the right or clear a path so responding emergency vehicles can pass. It could be your loved one we are trying to reach.
