If you aren’t comfortable treading water or swimming, it’s best to avoid boating, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, or tubing. If anything unexpected were to separate you from the boat or inner tube you’re in, you could be challenged beyond your capability to navigate to safety. Even a personal flotation device cannot replace one’s ability to swim or the confidence that comes with knowing how to swim. Unexpected water emergencies can tax even the best swimmers. Don’t risk it. Learn to swim before venturing out into the water.
