Washington Township Fire Department received a $15,742 grant from Firehouse Subs for the purchase of four stair chairs, one for each of the Township’s four medic vehicles. Designed especially for EMS, the new stair chairs will help paramedics move patients more easily and safely from their homes to a medic. Narrow hallways, tight turns, and stairs will no longer be obstacles for paramedics, thanks to the chair’s many features. It has a track system which allows for continuous contact between the stairs and the chair, making for a smoother ride and reducing paramedic fatigue and back strain. Other chair features that will improve patient and paramedic safety are extendable hand-holds, patient head and foot rests, and locking wheel brakes.
