On July 27th, the Washington Township Fire Department was re-accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI).
To earn this distinction, the Fire Department conducted a self-assessment of their operations by benchmarking against a set of performance indicators that are based on a nationally accepted set of criteria for level and quality of fire, EMS and other services. Indicators included operations, training, equipment, disaster response planning, human resources, inspections, investigations, public education and finance.
Once documentation of this assessment was approved by the CFAI, a four-member site assessment team spent five days in May interviewing department personnel and reviewing business practices.
Although the Department received a recommendation for accreditation from the site team at the conclusion of the site assessment, the team’s recommendation was not official until it was accepted by members of the CFAI Board of Directors on July 27.
